Gong Yuanshi Meeting with French Agricultural Science & Technology Delegation

                On Apr. 22, Vice Principal Gong Yuanshi met with a delegation led by Valérie Baduel, Standing Deputy Director General of the Directorate General of Education and Research (DGER) under the French Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry accompanied by Zhang Wen, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and Education under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the PRC. The two sides had an informal discussion on the cooperation in agricultural science and technology, technology promotion training, and exchange and training of students. 

                On behalf of CAU, Gong Yuanshi extended a warm welcome to the delegation and briefed it about CAUs history, departments, students and teachers, scientific research and international cooperation. CAU teachers not only undertake the missions of teaching and scientific research, but also make great efforts to solve major agricultural problems and promote the application of research achievement in respond to the national call, he said, CAU boasts strong research strength in animal and plant breeding, veterinary medicine and veterinary pharmacology, feed engineering, beef cattle industry and wine making, etc., and maintained a good partnership with INRA. We have established a solid foundation for agricultural science and technology cooperation, and yielded remarkable outcomes.

                Valérie Baduel introduced the situation of agricultural talents cultivation, relevant scientific and technological organizations and technology promotion in France. He said that the French government firmly supports the agricultural cooperation between China and France, and expressed the hope that both sides can make thorough exchanges and carry out win-win cooperation by making good use of their respective characteristics and advantages.

                According to Zhang Wen, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the PRC has reached a consensus with the French agricultural delegation on cooperation in agricultural education and training as well as agricultural scientific research. China and France have many things in common as well as their respective characteristics in regard to agriculture, and the agricultural universities and scientific research institutions in China constitute the main force in agriculture research. CAU has made outstanding achievements in education, scientific research and outcome applications. He expressed the hope that both sides exchange views on the issues of common interests, deepen mutual understanding to reach consensus so as to lay a good foundation for future cooperation. He also noted that China is now implementing the Rural Revitalization strategy, and gives priority to agricultural and rural development. To realize Rural Revitalization, agricultural talents of all kinds are needed. He looks forward to more agricultural cooperation between the universities and research institutions of the two sides to supplement that between governmental departments. He suggested the establishment of a regular working mechanism to deepen the mutual cooperation.

                The experts present at the meeting made in-depth exchanges in wine processing, veterinary, Chinese veterinary medicine research, technical training and student training. The delegates then visited the College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering.

                Present at the meeting were Yang Fuyu, Director of the Major Special Projects Department of the Scientific Research  Institute, Zhang Zhichao, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Yang Hanchun, Deputy Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Xia Zhaofei and Prof. Wang Jiufeng from this College, Prof. Li Jingming and Prof. Zhan Jicheng of the College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering, Prof. Ma Huiqin from the College of Horticulture, and Associate Prof. Zhou Zhenming of the College of Animal Science and Technology.
